We want to wish you all a Happy New Year! This year is going to be filled with plenty of new surprises. But first, let's look back on the highlights of last year.
2021 bought us another year of incredible VFX made with Clarisse, including work featured in some of the biggest films of the year. Congratulations to our clients who worked on films shortlisted for the 2022 Best VFX Oscar Awards, including: Black Widow, Dune, Free Guy, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Matrix Resurrections, No Time to Die, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Good luck to each nominee and may Clarisse help you bring home more Oscars in the future! We’d also like to congratulate the teams behind fan favourite films of the year, like Zack Snyder’s Justice League, F9: The Fast Saga, and Venom:Let There Be Carnage, all of which were made with Clarisse. Last year we brought you Clarisse 5. The fastest and most interactive major release to date, Clarisse 5 introduces over 100 new features and enhancements; Layout and set dressing have been greatly improved with a new USD exporter, new orthographic views and fully revamped graph editor. Render performance has reached new levels thanks to the addition of a new SSS engine and new standard material based on Autodesk Standard Surface. There’s also a whole new lighting engine that lets you seamlessly turn any geometries and emissive surfaces to lights, and with the addition of Python 3 support and VFX platform 2020 compliance, Clarisse is more open and customizable than ever before. 2021 also brought you the hotly anticipated release of Angie in Early Access. The next-generation hybrid CPU and GPU rendering engine for Clarisse delivers new levels of power, flexibility and performance to users. With simplified controls to remove complexity, Angie is OSL and MaterialX ready, and has been built from the ground up to maximize render performance and quality for projects big or small. A state-of-the-art addition to Clarisse, Angie is available to download in the Early Access of Clarisse 5.5 here. We’re also planning a number of updates and improvements to the Early Access release, keep an eye out for more updates coming soon.
2021 brought you many other Clarisse improvements, across Clarisse 4 and Clarisse 5. We released 9 Service Packs containing a total of 129 bug fixes and 34 new features and enhancements. Last year, we debuted a new artist focused show: ‘Behind the Magic’ - made by artists for artists. In it, we take a deep dive into the work of the incredibly talented VFX artists using Clarisse to make epic projects. Watch as they take us through their favorite projects, and breakdown their creative process and workflow in Clarisse. 2021’s ‘Behind The Magic’ episodes starred: Digital Matte Painter Emilis Baltrusaitis, Aaron Sorensen from VFX Central, and ILM’s Jeff Bartzis and Alfie Rodriguez.
