MONTPELLIER, FRANCE, May 4th, 2017 - Isotropix, a privately held software company developing high-end innovative graphics software solutions, announced today Clarisse 3.5 the next iteration of its nextgen 3D/ VFX creation tool. Unveiled at FMX 2017, Clarisse 3.5 introduces large improvements to set dressing, scene assembly, look development, lighting, rendering and many workflow enhancements.

Set Dressing

Clarisse 3.5 introduces a revolutionary workflow allowing artists to interactively paint, set dress and edit individual instances to create easily life-like environments made of billions of polygons. Clarisse’s scatterer has also received a lot of attention by the development team in 3.5 to offer artists, per-instance collision detection, per instance-time offset controls and probability-based weight distribution.

Lookdev, Lighting and Rendering

Clarisse 3.5 brings its share of artist-friendly new features and improvements in look development, lighting and rendering so that artists can spend less time to reach photorealism without compromising artistic and creative controls. Clarisse 3.5 introduces an all new physical standard material, new enhanced light controls, new texture operators such as a triplanar projection and many improvements to the Material Editor nodal view.

VFX Compositing

Clarisse 3.5 offers an arsenal of tools designed with comp artists in mind. The new Light Path Expressions allows them to output easily custom AOVs what they need out of Clarisse to tweak final lighting and shading in external compositing packages. The new Cryptomatte output bypasses the need of preparing and rendering specific masks in Clarisse as it allows to compositing artists the generation of perfect masks on renders with motion blur and depth of field on directly from the compositing application.

Scene Assembly

Clarisse 3.5 brings significative improvements regarding scene assembly and automatic shot assembly. The file referencing engine has been rebuilt from ground up to offer faster performances and attribute-level override management. New enhancements to groups offers greater project management flexibility. Groups now allows to mix procedural rules and explicit item referencing and can be used directly in Shading Layers, AOVs and Light Path Expressions to simplify the creation of procedural shot templates.

Clarisse 3.5 is scheduled to be released by the end of May 2017. Existing customers, with an active maintenance will be automatically eligible for a free upgrade when the Clarisse 3.5 is officially released. They can already access to the latest version of Clarisse (codenamed Daedalus) which previews quite a few of the new features that will be available in the final version of Clarisse 3.5.

San Francisco Clarisse User Group Meetup

Cryptomatte is a open source standard created at Psyop by Jonah Friedman and Andy Jones. It creates ID mattes automatically with support for motion blur, transparency, and depth of field, using organizational information already available at render time.
